CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Oluwadamilola Oloyede scored a career-high 17 points on 7-of-7 shooting but it was not enough as Coppin State's women's basketball team fell at Charlotte, 78-49 on Sunday afternoon at Halton Arena. The Eagles now stand at 1-7 on the season.
Oloyede made all three of her shot attempts in the first half and all four in the second period to complete her perfect day from the field. The sophomore from Beltsville, Md., also made 3-of-4 from the line. Oloyede's shooting performance was the best by a Lady Eagle since January 9, 2016 when Janelle Lane made all seven of her shots in a win at Howard.
Coppin also got nine points and nine rebounds from
Chance Graham, seven points from
Maraiyah Smith and six points apiece from
Genesis Lucas and
Candice Beverly.
Lucas also dished out five assists on the afternoon and now stands alone in second place in Coppin State history with 374 dimes. The senior from Brandywine passed Amber Griffin for second place with her second assist of the game which came on Oloyede's second made shot on the day with 6:43 left in the second quarter.
Charlotte, who improves to 3-5 on the year, led from start to finish and outshot CSU, 47.6% to 32.8% on the day. The 49ers scored the first four points but Lucas hit a three to cut it to a one-point deficit but that would be as close as the Eagles would get the rest of the way.
Nyilah Jamison-Myers led Charlotte with a game-high 18 points.
The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, December 5 when it travel to Middle Tenneesee State for an 11 am tipoff.
