MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Genesis Lucas scored her 1,000
th career point as the Coppin State women's basketball team fell at Middle Tennessee, 69-39, in front of a sold out Murphy Center on Tuesday afternoon.
Needing ten points to reach 1,000 career points, Lucas, a senior from Brandywine, Md., became the 14
th Eagles women's basketball player to reach the milestone with a jumper in the final minute of the second period. Lucas finished the day with a team-high 17 points with three triples and now has 1,007 career points which passes
Thelma Lyles ('89) for 13
th all-time in Coppin State history.
Lucas also got help offensively from
Chance Graham, who finished with eight points along with 12 rebounds while
Candice Beverly added six.
The Eagles shot just 27.8% from the floor compared to 41.3% for the Blue Raiders who led from nearly start to finish after the teams traded three baskets apiece to open the game.
Middle Tennessee had three players reach double figures, led by Jess Louro's 18 points.
The road does not get any easier for Coppin who travels to face No. 10 West Virginia on Sunday, December 10 at 2 pm.
