LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Coppin State University's volleyball team was swept, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-18) at Rider University on Friday afternoon. The Broncs improved to 16-14 on the year with the victory while the Eagles will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, November 12 with a pivotal MEAC matchup with crosstown rival Morgan State.
Asia Stennis led Coppin with nine kills while both
Valiyah Barnes and
Bailee Jackson chipped in with five apiece.
Christa Johnson added four kills without recording an error.
Angel Jamerson and
Dominique Madarang split time at setter with Jamerson recording 12 assists to Madarang's 11.
Defensively,
Glorines Rosado again led the squad with a team-high 14 digs as Barnes and
Marlena Guice added a pair of blocks.
Rider led from start to finish in the opening set despite Coppin's multiple comebacks to close to within one point. Following back-to-back kills by Stennis to cut the Bronc's lead to 11-10, Rider responded with four-straight points and never looked back.
The Eagles scored the first three points of the second frame but after they went ahead, 4-2, Rider scored five consecutive points. Coppin bounced back to tie the score at seven but it was all Broncs from there.
Set three was back-and-forth early on but a 4-0 run by Rider midway through sealed the victory.
