WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Coppin State softball team finished its road slate with a 12-0 defeat against George Washington University on Wednesday, April 6 in Washington, D.C. at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.

The Lady Eagles (2-23 overall) registered two hits from the infield duo of
Danielle Smith and
Taylor Haller.
Â
For Smith, it was her team-leading 31st hit of the season. '

Smith doubled to center field in the top of the fourth inning for the Lady Eagles first hit of the afternoon.
Â
She now has nine doubles on this season and a .595 slugging percentage, which both lead the Lady Eagles.

Haller singled to the shortstop in the top of the sixth inning for Coppin State's second hit of the game.
Â
For Haller, it was her sixth hit of the 2016 softball season.
Â
George Washington (17-15) scored two runs in the first, third and fourth innings and one run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings.

Freshman
Melanie Benge led Coppin State tossing 3.2 innings retiring one.

She leads the Lady Eagles with 31 strikeouts.

Megan Narvaez went 2.1 and recorded her 10th punchout of the season.

Coppin State will host a MEAC home series against Howard University in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, April 10 at noon. The weekend series will be held at the CSU Softball Complex.Â
