BALTIMORE- Coppin State senior infielder
Danielle Smith finished with three hits and one run scored in the Lady Eagles doubleheader against the University at Albany on Saturday, April 16 at the CSU Softball Complex in Baltimore.
The Great Danes defeated the Lady Eagles 8-0 in the first game and 9-4 in game two.

Alisha Esqueda also turned in mutli-hit performances.
Coppin State was shutout in game one but did manage to register three hits.
Albany scored two runs in the first inning, two runs in the third inning, and four runs in the fifth inning.

Cayla Brown recorded the Lady Eagles first hit with a single to third base in the bottom of the second inning.

Melanie Benge led off the bottom of the third inning with a single up the middle and freshman infielder
Haley Hayes followed by singling through the left side for the Lady Eagles final hit of the opening game.

Megan Narvaez and
Melanie Benge each tossed 2.0 innings for Coppin State.

Dakota Gartell led the Lady Eagles with one strikeout as the University at Albany took game one, 8-0.
In the final game of the doubleheader
Danielle Smith led off the opening inning with a single to the shortstop.
The Great Danes answered by scoring three runs in the top of the second inning.
In the bottom of the second inning
Alisha Esqueda singled through the right side for the Lady Eagles second hit of the game.
Haley Hayes followed with an RBI double to center field, bringing home Esqueda for Coppin State's first run of the afternoon.
Shelby Mendoza closed the inning by following with a single up the middle.
The Great Danes added two runs in the third inning and two more runs in the fifth.
Megan Narvaez doubled through the right side to get things started for the Lady Eagles in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Danielle Smith followed with her second hit of the game, a single through the left side that advanced Narvaez.
Senior outfielder
Alanna Williams pushed and RBI single up the middle, scoring Narvaez.
Albany scored one run in the top of the seventh inning giving the Great Danes a 9-3 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh inning,
Danielle Smith led off with a single to right field for her third hit of the game. Then she stole second base.
Her 10th stolen base of the season.
Cayla Brown slammed an RBI single into center field, bringing home Smith for the Lady Eagles final run of the afternoon.
Albany held on for a 9-4 win.

Dakota Gartell led the Lady Eagles throwing 4.1 innings and retiring one batter.
Coppin State will finish its weekend series with another doubleheader against the University at Albany on Sunday, April 17. The first game will start at noon as all the games will be played at the CSU Softball Complex.
