BALTIMORE- Four Coppin State seniors recorded a hit in their final game at the CSU Softball Complex against Hampton University on Sunday, April 24.
Coppin State dropped its home finale 14-2 to Hampton. Seniors Alanna Williams, Shelby Mendoza, Danielle Smith, Lauren Rogers, Michele Saunders, and Kimberlynn Brown.
Senior outfielder Alanna Williams led the Lady Eagles with two hits and an RBI. Senior infielder Danielle Smith added one hit, an RBI and scored one run for CSU.
Senior infielders Lauren Rogers and Kimberlynn Brown each chipped in one hit apiece for Coppin.
The Lady Pirates had one run on one hit in the opening inning of play.
Coppin State registered its first hit of the game on a Brown single to left field in the bottom of the second inning.
Hampton responded with five runs on five hits in the top of the third inning taking a 6-0 advantage.
Rogers led off the bottom of the third inning with a single to right field for CSU's second hit of the game.
The Lady Pirates erupted with eight runs on seven hits in the top of the fourth inning jumping out to a 14-0 lead.
Williams led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to left field for her first hit of the afternoon.
Freshman outfielder Melanie Benge followed with a single to left center for the Lady Eagles second hit of the inning.
Rogers was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the fifth inning, as freshman Hatika James subbed in as a pinch runner for Rogers.
Then Smith crushed an RBI triple through the right side, bringing home James for the Eagles first run of the game.
Williams followed with an RBI single to left field, scoring Smith to close the game for CSU as Hampton held on for a 14-2 victory.
Freshman pitcher Megan Narvaez tossed 4.1 innings for the Lady Eagles and retired two batters.
Coppin State will face crosstown rival Morgan State in their season finale with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 beginning at 1:00 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, May 1 starting at noon.Â
