GREENSBORO – Coppin State exploded for 14 hits led by freshmen
Melanie Benge's four hits and three RBIs in a neutral site loss to Maryland Eastern Shore, 11-6.
The Lady Eagles did a great job on offense in the first three innings against the Hawks. Senior infielder
Danielle Smith led the game off with a triple in the first inning and then scored on a single by freshmen infielder
Megan Narvaez. Coppin State's second run of the inning came on a freshmen pitcher
Melanie Benge RBI single to left field bringing home Narvaez. After the first inning, the Lady Eagles led 2-0.
In the third inning, three hits led to one run for the Lady Eagles as UMES remained scoreless. Benge had her second RBI of the game with a single to center field scoring Narvaez. Narvaez led the inning off with a single along with freshmen infielder
Cayla Brown.
UMES took off in the next inning with six runs on five hits. Coppin State trailed 6-3 in the fourth inning but cut into the deficit in the last two innings.
Melanie Benge got things rolling in the fifth inning with an RBI single to center field that brought home
Alanna Williams. Williams single to center field to get on base. UMES responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lady Eagles tallied three more hits in the sixth inning that led to a pair of runs.

Alisha Esqueda. Williams blasted an RBI singled to left field sending home Smith for the Lady Eagles final run of the game. UMES tacked on another two runs in the bottom of the sixth and went on to win 11-6.

Melanie Benge went four innings, striking out four Hawks, and allowing five hits. Freshmen Dakota Gatrell pitched in relief of Benge for the fifth and sixth innings. The Lady Eagles offense was led by Benge's four hits and three RBIs.
Danielle Smith added three hits including a triple. Meagan Narvaez had two RBIs on two hits while
Alanna Williams had the other RBI on her two hits.
