Blake Simpson grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds in an 87-52 non-conference loss for Coppin State at Buffalo on Saturday, December 10
th in Alumni Arena.
Two Eagles finished in double figure scoring with junior guard
Tre' Thomas and freshman guard
Dejuan Clayton both scoring 13 points each. Clayton made a season-high three shots from long range and dished out a team-best three assists. Thomas led the starters with five made field goals while tying a season-high with two assists and his first block of the season. Simpson recorded six rebounds in both periods notching his fourth career double-digit rebound game as an Eagle.
Coppin State made six three-pointers in the opening half and then got to the free-throw line in the second half converting on 8-of-11 attempts. Senior
Joshua Treadwell went a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and Clayton connected on a pair also. Buffalo finished the game shooting 50% from both the field and three-point range. CSU gave up a season-high percentage from downtown as the Bulls made 15 three-pointers.
Clayton paced Coppin State's first half scoring with 11 points from off of the bench. He made three shots from three-point range and two from the charity stripe. Treadwell had all seven of his points in the second half and senior guard
Keith Shivers added six points.
Two finished in double figure scoring for Buffalo with Willie Conner scoring a game-high 28 points. Conner made 8-of-13 three-pointers and CJ Massinburg added 15 points knocking down 7-of-8 free-throws.
The Eagles will host Goldey-Beacom College for their second home game of the season on Thursday, December 15 (7:30 p.m. ET) in the Physical Education Complex. After the Lightning, Coppin State will welcome Louisiana at Monroe to the PEC Arena on Tuesday, December 20 (2 p.m. ET) before concluding non-conference play at Mount St. Mary's on Thursday, December 22 (7 p.m. ET).
