Samuels Drops Season-High 18 Points at No. 21/25 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Senior guard Keena Samuels scored a team season-high 18 points in a 69-39 loss to No. 21/25 West Virginia University on Saturday, Nov. 19 at WVU Coliseum.

Samuels' 18 points was the most by an Eagle this season. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, grabbed seven rebounds, made six steals and had two assists. Sophomore Alexis Taylor led the bench scoring with six points and three rebounds. Red-shirt senior Tiara Goode recorded a season-high seven rebounds and red-shirt junior Genesis Lucas scored five points and had five rebounds.

West Virginia made 40% (24-of-60) of their shots from the field and made 16-of-21 free-throws. Their defense forced 23 CSU turnovers and held them to 1-for-11 shooting from three-point range. Coppin State grabbed a season-high 44 rebounds while converting on 10-of-16 free-throws against the Mountaineers.

The first half scoring was led by Samuels' six points as the Eagles only made four field goals. WVA made 8-of-8 free-throws and 11 shots from the field and carried a 33-13 advantage into the half. The Eagles offense improved in the second half with ten made field goals. Samuels scored 12 points in the final half on 6-of-11 made shots. Lucas scored all five of her points including Coppin State's only three-pointer of the afternoon. The Mountaineers kept their lead over the Eagles and defeated Coppin State 69-39.

Coppin State will host Stephen F. Austin in their 2016-17 home opener in their next game on Friday, Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
