Volleyball Continues MEAC Play with Road Trips to DSU and UMES


The Eagles continue MEAC conference play this weekend on the road against Delaware State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday at 3 p.m. Both matches will have live stats and the UMES match will have live video and audio.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Eagles end their current four-match road trip next week when they travel to rival Morgan State on Friday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. Then they return home for their annual Dig-Pink Game against Howard on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m.
 
CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Junior Glorines Rosado continues to climb up the Coppin State career charts in digs. She has 578 as an Eagle, putting her in eighth place. Next up on the list are Kanishia Sheppard (7th, 596) and Candis Johnson (6th, 633).
 
TEAM NOTES
Coppin State is searching for their first win of the season after a winless (0-14) non-conference record to start the season and a current (0-3) mark in conference play, their worst start since 2009 when it began (0-19). The Eagles went down in straight sets in their last match at Howard for the 10th time this season…Five times this season CSU has split the first two sets and have went the entire five sets three times.
 
PLAYER NOTES
Junior Bailee Jackson had reached double figure kills in her last four matches after posting ten at Howard (Oct. 2). She also leads the Eagles in MEAC conference play in three categories; .146 attack percentage, 35 kills for 2.88 points per set in three matches…Her season-high was 21 kills versus Bucknell (Sept. 2)…junior Glorines Rosado has a streak of four straight double figure dig matches when she went for 14 at Howard (Oct. 2)…She leads the Eagles defensively with 48 digs in MEAC play while registering 3.69 digs per set, and three service aces…Her season-high dig total is 22 which happened twice this season versus Robert Morris (Sept. 2) and versus Hampton (Sept. 25)…freshman Angel Jamerson started the last two matches and tallied season-highs with 20 assists at Howard (Oct. 2) and nine kills versus Hampton (Sept. 25).
 
EAGLES IN THE MEAC RANKINGS
Coppin State is 0-3 in the MEAC conference after their 3-0 loss to Howard. They are ranked seventh in the MEAC Northern Division. and are third in the MEAC conference rankings in digs with 842 this season averaging 14.42 per set. Individually, junior Glorines Rosado is the highest ranking Eagle amongst the MEAC conference sitting fifth in digs per set (3.84). Freshman Dominique Madarang is sixth in assists per set (6.95) and junior Bailee Jackson ranks in the top-ten of the MEAC standings in a pair of categories. She is seventh in kills averaging 2.79 per set and is eighth in points averaging 3.15 per set.
 
SCOUTING THE DELAWARE STATE HORNETS
Delaware State (0-16, 0-3 MEAC) has dropped all of their matches this season. DSU is hitting .039 as a team, averaging 7.6 kills, 0.8 service aces, 10.3 digs and 1.6 blocks per set. Sabrina Szmajduch leads them with 2.06 kps. Gabriella Enriques is their lead setter averaging 5.76 per set and Ariana Stevens leads at the net averaging 1.17 bps.
 
THE MATCHUP: EAGLES VS. HORNETS
Coppin State trails the all-time series against Delaware State 43-17 but won both meetings last season (3-0 in Dover, Oct. 9 and 3-1 in PEC Auxiliary 3-1, Oct. 30). The Eagles have won eight consecutive matches and nine out of the last ten meetings with the Hornets dating back to the 2011 season.
 
SCOUTING THE MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE HAWKS
Maryland Eastern Shore (10-10, 3-1 MEAC) is on a current three game win streak in MEAC play after dropping eight straight matches. UMES is hitting .212 as a team, averaging 10.7 kills, 1.8 service aces, 11.0 digs and 2.0 blocks per set. Two Hawks are averaging over 2.00 kps; Lucia Babic (2.59) ranks sixth in the MEAC and Iva Vujosevic (2.10). Ivana Blazevic is their top setter averaging 6.73 per set ranking seventh in the MEAC and Zuzana Ondruskova leads the defense averaging 2.69 dps. Mere Serea ranks second in the MEAC in blocks per set with 1.08.
 
THE MATCHUP: EAGLES VS. HAWKS
Coppin State trails the all-time series against Delaware State 50-15 and dropped both meetings last season (3-1 in PEC Auxiliary, Oct. 10 and 3-0 in Princess Anne, Nov. 1). In their last ten meetings the Eagles are 4-6 against the Hawks. Coppin State won four straight matches from 2013-14.
