BALTIMORE- The Coppin State women's basketball moved to 2-0 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play after its 83-67 dominating road win against Howard Saturday afternoon in Burr Gymnasium in Washington D.C.

Coppin State (5-9 overall) has now won three consecutive games. This is the team's longest win streak so far this season.

The Lady Eagles outscored the Bison in all four quarters while shooting 44.4% from the field. CSU knocked down season high five 3-point field goals.

They Eagles found a way to pull the game out despite seniors
Janelle Lane and
Amber Griffin fouling out.

Keena Samuels led all scorers with a career best 23 points, including 17 in the second half. She added five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 38 minutes of game action. She converted 12 of her 16 foul shots.

Samuels caught fire in the third quarter scoring nine of her second half 17 points. Her 3-point field goal with 2:02 to play in the third quarter gave the Lady Eagles a 60-49 lead that they would not relinquish.

Senior
Janelle Lane finished with 17 points on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting from the field before fouling out with 5:39 left the play in the third quarter. Lane also has one block and one steal in only 13 minutes on the court.

17 points tied a season high for Lane.

Genesis Lucas played tenacious defense all game long. Lucas compiled 13 points, three assists and two rebounds on 5-of-7 from the field including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.

Lucas has scored in double figures in three straight games for the Lady Eagles.

Omaah Tayong came up just short of her third consecutive double double with 10 points and nine rebounds on 4-of-8 accuracy off the bench.

Tayong was a force on the offensive glass collecting five offensive rebounds for Coppin State. She has five or more rebounds in every game this season.

Amber Griffin recorded nine points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal for the Lady Eagles. Griffin shot 2-of-4 from long distance before fouling out of the game with 4:06 left in the game.

Senior
Jordan Swails chipped in eight points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes. Swails did a great job of holding the Bison to one-shot possessions has all of her rebounds came of the defensive end of the floor.
This was the first MEAC home loss for the Howard Bison (3-13, 1-2 MEAC).

Te'Shya Heslip led the Bison with 19 points and six rebounds. Victoria Gonzales added 18 points and eight rebounds for Howard.

Coppin State will have a week off and continue its MEAC road schedule Saturday January 16 against Bethune-Cookman at Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach, FL. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.Â
