BALTIMORE- The Coppin State dropped its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game of the season in a 56-69 setback Saturday afternoon to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach, FL.

Coppin fought back from a 22-point deficit late in the second half to bring the game within 12, but ultimately fell in the end. The Lady Eagles outscored the Wildcats 19-13 in the fourth quarter.

The loss snapped a three game win streak for Coppin State (5-10, 2-1).

Coppin State shot a season best 86.7% from the foul line, sinking 13-of-15 shots.

Janelle Lane led the Lady Eagles with 16 points, six rebounds, one block and one steal.
Lane scored all 16 of her points and grabbed five of her six rebounds in the second half, after only playing four minutes in the first half because of foul trouble.

She went 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.

Amber Griffin finished with 11 points on 4-of-7, including a perfect 1-of-1 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. She added one rebound, one assist and one steal in a team best 37 minutes.

Keena Samuels tallied 11 points and one rebound in 36 minutes of game action. She tied a team high with two assists.

Samuels went 5-of-6 from the foul line.

Genesis Lucas recorded eight points, three rebounds, two assists and a team best four steals.

Omaah Tayong scored eight points and snagged nine rebounds off the bench for Coppin State.

The Lady Eagles stingy defense forced the Wildcats into 18 turnovers, Coppin State collected 10 steals in the game.

Bethune-Cookman (9-8, 3-1) has now won two consecutive MEAC games.

Taylor Houston led the Wildcats with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kailyn Williams added 13 points and 14 rebounds for Bethune-Cookman.

Coppin State will conclude its MEAC road trip with a matchup against Florida A&M on Monday night January 18 in the Al Lawson Center in Tallahassee, FL. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m.
