CSU Looks to Defend Home Court Against UMES

BALTIMORE- After cruising past the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies 65-59 Wednesday Night January 27, the Coppin State Lady Eagles (6-11, 3-2) will square off against the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks on Saturday January 30 in the Physical Education Complex. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
The Lady Eagles are 6-11 and are coming off their second home MEAC win of the season. Coppin State is 3-2 in MEAC play and is 3-3 in its last six games.
 
Six Lady Eagles are averaging at least 8.0 points per game. Five of those players are in the top 30 in scoring in the MEAC. Janelle Lane is putting in a team-leading 11.2 points per game. She has started all 17 games for Coppin State.

Coppin State crushed North Carolina A&T in the paint, 30-12 as the Lady Eagles led 20-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Eagles also scored 24 points off 22 Aggie turnovers.
 
The Lady Eagles won the battle of the board 41-31. Coppin State's 21 made free throws was one shy of its season best.
 
Senior Omaah Tayong recorded a double double in her seventh start of the season. Tayong finished with 15 points and tied a season best with 13 rebounds. She went 7-of-12 shooting from the field in 32 minutes.
 
Jordan Swails added 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. She connected on four of her five free throws. Swails has scored in double figures in back-to-back games.
 
Janelle Lane tallied nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in the Lady Eagles victory.
 
Genesis Lucas led Coppin State with four assists. She added two points and six rebounds.
 
SATURDAY'S GAME
Coppin State leads the all-time series over Maryland Eastern Shore, 36-24. The Hawks won last season's meeting in Princess Anne, MD, 66-58.
 
ABOUT MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (5-13, 3-3) are coming off a double overtime victory over Bethune-Cookman, 76-71 inside the William P. Hytche Center on January 23.
 
The Hawks beat the Wildcats thanks to Taryana Kelly. She career-high 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and snagged 14 boards in 41 minutes of action.
 
Moengaroa Subritzky matched Kelly's playing time and chipped in a team-high 19 points, seven rebounds, and a career-high three steals in the win.
 
WHATS DOWN THE ROAD
Coppin State will begin a three game MEAC road trip beginning Monday, February 2 against cross-town rival Morgan State. The Lady Eagles will then head south to face South Carolina State (Sat. Feb 6) and Savannah State (Mon. Feb 8). The Lady Eagles makeup game against North Carolina Central has been moved to Thursday, February 18.
 
COPPIN STATE AT HOME
The Lady Eagles are 23-2 at PEC Arena during the 2015-16 season. Last year Coppin State was 4-8 in the Physical Education Complex. Their last home win was January 27 against North Carolina A&T. The Lady Eagles are 2-0 in MEAC home games this season.

Senior Jordan Swails notched her fourth career double double with 11 points and a career best 16 rebounds. Swails was an equal opportunity board snatcher, finishing with eight offensive and defensive rebounds.
 
She added two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Genesis Lucas scored four points and a season high seven assists in the setback loss. She also added a steal in 35 minutes of game action.
