GLEN BURNIE, Md. – Five different Coppin State players finished with at least two hits during a 10-4 setback to Georgetown University Tuesday afternoon in a nonconference baseball game at Bachman Park.
Leading Coppin State's offensive charge was leftfielder
Jeffrey Fitch, who produced his first three-hit game of the season. Fitch singled in the second, fourth and eighth innings for the Eagles (2-23 overall). He has reached base in 10 straight games and has at least one hit in seven of CSU's last eight games. Fitch is hitting .300 on the season.
Bryant Miranda, Jack Kraft,
George Dragon and
Darien Percell all had two hits each. For Dragon, who leads Coppin State with a .354 batting average, it was his team-leading 11th multi-hit game of the season and his second in his last three outings. Dragon has reached base in 24 of Coppin State's 25 games this season. He has 34 hits on the season.
Kraft has seven multi-hit games following his third two-hit outing in his last five games. Miranda's sixth multi-hit game of the season was his second in Coppin State's last three outings.
Coppin State applied plenty of offensive pressure throughout the game. However, the Eagles couldn't take advantage of three bases loaded no out situations throughout the contest. In those three innings, Coppin State scored once on a wild pitch in the second inning. The Eagles stranded 18 runners on base.
The Eagles scored two runs in the fifth inning thanks to a two-out error by Georgetown and its final run in the sixth inning on Dragon's RBI single.
Coppin State's bullpen of
Myles Taylor and Chris Vasquez combined to allow one run over the final five innings. Taylor used three pitches to escape a bases loaded no-out jam when he entered the game in the fifth inning.
Georgetown (14-14) was led by centerfielder Evan Ryan, who had three hits. The Hoyas also had 13 hits.
Coppin State returns to action Wednesday afternoon when it visits La Salle University for a 3:00 p.m. start at Hank DeVincent Field in Philadelphia.
