Box Score BALTIMORE – The Coppin State (2-5) women's basketball team suffered a 59-78 setback to the Miami Hurricanes at BankUnited Arena Friday night.
It was the Eagles third consecutive loss in as many years to the Hurricanes.
Genesis Lucas' 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals led Coppin State. She was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. It was Lucas' fourth straight game with at least two assists and two steals.
Seniors guards
Amber Griffin and
Jordan Swails scored 10 points apiece. Griffin added five assists and two rebounds in 38 minutes. She has four double figure scoring games on the season.
Swails has three consecutive games on 10 or more points. She was a perfect 2-of-2 shooting from long distance and 4-of-6 accuracy from the charity stripe.
Omaah Tayong was one point shy of a double double. She scored nine points and two assists in 25 minutes. Tayong grabbed a team and game high 10 rebounds. It was her second double-digit rebounding game of the season.
The Miami Hurricanes (9-0) was led by Jessica Thomas, who scored a game high 16 points, five assists and two steals. Erykah Davenport and Keyanna Harris both added 10 points.
The Eagles will travel to the Carrier Dome for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff against Syracuse University on Wednesday December 9. It will be the second of three straight road games against Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) teams.
