BALTIMORE- Playing in its second of three road games against Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents, the Coppin State women's basketball team fell to the no.18 ranked Syracuse Orange 88-56 in the Carrier Dome Wednesday night.
The Eagles (2-6 overall) were led by Senior
Omaah Tayong with 14 points, on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and six rebounds. Both were team highs for Coppin State. It was her third time scoring in double figures and her seventh game with 6 or more rebounds this season.
Janelle Lane finished 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. She added three rebounds, one block and one steal. Lane leads the Eagles in blocks with eight so far this year. She has scored 10 or more points in five or the seven games this season.
Jordan Swails poured in eight points, grabbed five rebounds, and collected three steals for Coppin State. She has three games with three or more steals. Swails leads the Eagles with 19 steals on the season.
Guards
Genesis Lucas and
Amber Griffin both filled up the stat column for the Eagles.
Lucas scored seven points and dished out a team high six assists. She has led Coppin State in assists 14 times in her career.
Griffin chipped in six points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals in a team high 38 minutes played. Â She has four games of three or more assists this season.
Coppin State won the battle in the paint outscoring Syracuse 38-30. The Eagles are outscoring opponents in the fourth quarter this season.
Three Syracuse (6-2) players scored in double figures led by 15 points and five assists from Alexis Peterson. Julia Chandler and Brianna Butler added 11 points apiece.
The Lady Eagles will return to action against its third consecutive ACC opponent with a matchup against Virginia Tech on Sunday December 13 at Cassell Coliseum scheduled for a noon tipoff.
