DOVER, Del. --
Taariq Cephas scored a team-high 14 points, but Tahj Tate scored 14 points and Delaware State shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half on its way to a 57-43 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over Coppin State on Saturday in Memorial Hall.
The Hornets (11-13, 6-4 MEAC) held a slim 24-22 halftime lead, but made 13-of-26 shots in the second half and outscored the Eagles 33-21.
Coppin State (5-21, 2-9 MEAC) dropped its sixth straight game by shooting just 39.1 percent from the floor.
Tyshawn Bell added 13 points for Delaware State and Miles Bowman had seven points and five rebounds.
Cephas tied the game at 24-24 with a layup with 19:17 to play in the second half, but the Hornets responded with a 13-2 run that pushed the lead to 37-26 with 10:57 remaining in the game.
A three-pointer by Bell upped the Delaware State lead to 45-32 with 6:32 remaining, but the Eagles rallied.
Three-point baskets by Armstrong and Cephas, sandwiched around a DSU basket by Marques Oliver, brought the Eagles to within 47-38 with 5:03 left in the second half.
Delaware State countered with a 10-0 run, sparked by back-to-back three-pointers from Bell and Bowman, to extend the lead to 57-38 with 2:37 to play.
Coppin State returns to action on Monday (Feb. 18) when it visits Maryland Eastern Shore at 7:30 p.m.
