Eagles Finish UMBC Tournament with 2-1 Record

BALTIMORE -- Cindy Okpegbue had 13 kills, but Coppin State lost to UMBC 25-15, 25-16, 25-14 in the Eagles final match of the 2013 Maddie Bingaman Tournament on Saturday at UMBC.
Coppin State (3-8) concluded tournament play with a 2-1 record. The Eagles defeated Loyola (Md.) and St. Francis (Pa.) and lost only to UMBC.
Kandace Thomas had eight kills and five digs and Ariel Richard added seven kills and four digs for the Eagles.
Gabrielle Otero paced the CSU defensive effort with 10 digs, whileChelsee Sauni notched 31 assists directing the Eagle offense.
UMBC (7-4) was led by Emily Witsaman who had 11 kills, while Hannah Schmidt added 10 kills.
UMBC hit .352 in the victory, while limiting Coppin State to just an .077 attack percentage.
