Dunn Finishes Second in 800 Meters

LANDOVER, Md. -- Junior Dale Dunn finished second in the 800 meters leading Coppin State on the first day of competition at the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Center.
Dunn, who placed fourth in the same event last season, lost a dual down the stretch with Donte Holmes of Delaware State for the title. Holmes won the race in 1:52.51, while Dunn crossed the line in 1:52.89 to earn the Eagles eight points.
Coppin State also picked up four points in the 800 meters from Kayon Smith. Smith finished the race in 1:56.02, which was good for fifth place overall.
Dunn later ran the anchor leg on the Eagles distance medley relay team that finished fifth in 10:31.73, which gave Coppin State four additional points.
With one event still remaining on the day, the Eagles are currently in fourth place with 16 points.
Teo Bennett is poised to score in the 400 meters after placing fifth in the preliminaries in a time of 49.72. He also was 10th in the 200 meters in 22.20.
The championship will continue on Saturday (Feb. 13) beginning with the women's pole vault at 9 a.m. and concluding with the men's 4x400 relay at 5:40 p.m.
