Sean Repay is in his third season as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator with the Coppin State baseball program. He was also promoted to associate head coach after the 2022 season where he helped guide the Eagles to their first-ever NCAA Regional.
Through his two seasons at Coppin, the Eagles won 45 games which is the most in any two-year stretch in program history. In his first year in 2022, the CSU pitching staff struck out a school-record 429 batters, led by MEAC Pitcher of the Year Jordan Hamberg who fanned a CSU record 87 batters. Tyler Nichol also struck out 72 batters, the sixth-most in school history. Last season in 2023, Coppin was in its inaugural season as an associate member of the NEC and won 20+ games for the fourth time in the last five years, and just missed the conference tournament via tiebreakers despite winning 14 games in league play.
Repay came to Coppin State University after spending the 2021 season as the Head Baseball Coach at Dawson Community College in Glendive, Mont. In his one season with the Buccaneers, Repay led the program to its most successful year in school history. DCC finished with a 28-23 record (a 27 win improvement from the 2020 season), participated in its first NJCAA Regional Tournament in 17 years, and won the most overall and conference games in school history. Repay coached four All-Conference players and 2 all-region players. In addition to on-field success, the DCC program had much improved on the academic side as well. The Bucs overall team GPA grew to 3.01 with a 63 man roster, which included 26 Academic All-Conference selections and 10 NJCAA Academic All-American selections. His team was one of 40 teams in all NJCAA sports to receive the NJCAA All-American Team of the Year Award.
Repay brings with him ten years of collegiate coaching experience at every level including NCAA D1, D2, D3, NAIA and Junior College; as well as extensive experience working in professional baseball, top collegiate summer leagues, high school, academies and scouting. Some of his stops include Dominican College (NY), University of Antelope Valley (CA), Lakeland University (WI), Indiana University Southeast, University of Toledo and Dawson Community College. Overall, over 80 of Repay’s ex-players have gone on to play in professional baseball, including three who are currently playing in the MLB.
For four summers, Repay was the head coach for the Bismarck Larks (2017-2019) and the Minnesota Mud Puppies (2021) in the Northwoods League, the number-two rated collegiate summer league in the country. During three seasons with the Larks, Repay won 100 games and a North Division Championship, the first in franchise history. He has seen over 20 of his players from the Larks get selected in the MLB Draft and another 30 go on to play independent professional baseball.Â
In addition, Repay coached in professional baseball for three years. Repay spent the 2014 season as the Field Manager for the Bisbee Blue of the Pecos League, 2015 as a pitching coach for the Gary Southshore RailCats and 2016 as the pitching coach for the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League.
Repay graduated from Loras College in 2008. He resides with his wife, Hope and three kids in Abingdon, MD.
