Casey Monroe-Gaskins

Casey Monroe-Gaskins was hired in September 2024 as the associate head coach for the Coppin State women's basketball team.

Monroe-Gaskins comes to Coppin after spending eight seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Maryland Eastern Shore, including the 2023-24 campaign as the associate head coach. After her first season as a volunteer, she worked her way up to a full-time assistant role during the 2017-18 season.

Her primary coaching responsibility was with the guards while serving as the team's travel coordinator, along with scouting, recruiting and evaluating talent. She also directed the Hawks' Basketball Academy summer camp for kids ages 7-17.

Monroe-Gaskins (then Morton) ended her collegiate career with 1,230 points, which is fourth all-time in the program’s Division I history. The Eastern Shore native also ranks fourth in total assists (296) and total steals (188) and is the program's all-time leader in games played (116).

As a freshman during the 2007-08 season, Morton was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year while earning All-Rookie Team accolades.  In her senior season, she was named Second Team All-MEAC after averaging over 11 points per game.

In high school, she scored over 2,500 career points at Mardela and named conference Player of the Year as a senior. She was selected to the Bayside First Team and Warriors’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) all four years while guiding her squad to four consecutive regular season and Bayside Championships in that same time span.

She lives in Salisbury with her husband Shaquille and her son Sebastian.
