TEANECK, N.J. – Marcus Sanders and
Kenan Harvey both had a pair of hits and combined for four RBI as Coppin State's baseball team fell at FDU, 15-5, on Saturday afternoon at Naimoli Complex. The Eagles now stand at 2-12 overall and 2-3 in the NEC while the Knights moved to 7-7 on the year and 4-1 in league play.
After a scoreless first inning, Coppin scored three in the second and added another in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Sanders singled down the left field line to drive in
Angel Garcia and
Brennen Barczai before
Terrell Milliner scored on a throwing error. In the third, Harvey singled to center field to drive in
Armando (AJ) Hurtado.
FDU cut the deficit in half with a two-run fourth, and after an RBI infield single by Sanders in the fifth, the hosts tied the score with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
The Knights erupted for ten runs over the next two innings to pull away and take the second game of the series.
Dillon Kirksey pitched well in the no-decision, allowing just two runs on five hits with six strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work.
Luke Corcoran received the loss after giving up five runs in the next 1.2 innings before
Mekenna Wakakuwa and
Abel Ortiz combined to give up four runs in the final inning.
Coppin and FDU wrap up their three-game series on Sunday, March 15 at 1 pm.
