Baseball Drops Second-Straight Game to La Salle

HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team's rally against La Salle fell just short in a 9-6 loss to the Explorers on Saturday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.  The Eagles fell to 0-6 on the season while La Salle improved to 7-2.

Emilio Feliciano and Agustin Murillo, Jr., both had a pair of hits and an RBI while Murillo also drew a walk. Angel Garcia, Terrell Milliner and Noah Hogan also drove in runs and had base hits for the Eagles.

Dillon Kirksey threw 6.0 innings in the start and allowed eight runs on six hits while striking out two. Aaden Lopez struck out two in his lone inning of work before Justin Ritz gave up a run on three hits in the final two innings.

La Salle struck for five runs over the first two innings before the Eagles cut the deficit with a three-run second. An error allowed Bryce Thompson to score the first run before Feliciano and Hogan drove in runs.

Kirksey got a 1-2-3 third but allowed a two-run home run in the fourth as La Salle extended its lead to 7-3. The Explorers added another run in the fifth before Kirksey retired the side in order in the sixth.

Lopez stranded three Explorers on base in the seventh and CSU capitalized with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull back within, 8-6. Garcia's single through the left side on the infield to drive in Pedro Agosto before an RBI single by Milliner and a sacrifice fly from Murillo.

Three hits by La Salle in the eight scored a run for the visitors and the Eagles put just one runner on base over the final two innings.

The Eagles will look to salvage a game in the three-game series when they host La Salle at 1 pm on Sunday, March 1.
