NORMAN, Okla. – Coppin State's baseball team was swept in a three-game series at #19 Oklahoma over the weekend at Kimrey Family Stadium. The Eagles fell to 0-4 on the season while the Sooners remain perfect at 7-0 overall.
Game 1: Oklahoma def. Coppin State, 22-1
Nelson Grajales recorded an RBI single in the top of the first, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead, but only
Emilio Feliciano and
Marcus Sanders had base hits the rest of the way.
Dillon Kirksey was charged with seven earned runs in the first inning before
Jack Joyce allowed four runs over the next two.
Luke Corcoran was hit for seven runs over 1.1 innings before
Keith Wallace gave up just one earned run over the final 1.2 innings while striking out three.
Game 2: Oklahoma def. Coppin State, 24-0
Terrell Milliner and
Marcus Sanders, who doubled, had the only base hits for Coppin while
Nelson Grajales drew a pair of walks.
Nicco Holland was charged with just three earned runs over the first 2.2 innings before
Mekenna Wakakuwa gave up three while retiring a pair of batters.
Brandon Stephens was hit for three runs before
Aaden Lopez and
Abel Ortiz did not give up an earned run over the next 2.2 innings. Lopez struck out a pair to lead the Eagles.
Game 3: Oklahoma def. Coppin State, 11-0
Coppin recorded four hits, including a double and a walk by
Bryce Thompson.
Nelson Grajales, Angel Garcia, and
Jordan Treadwell also had base knocks while Grajales also drew a walk.
Jake Cumming took the loss in the starting nod on the mound, allowing five earned runs on four hits and six walks in 1.1 innings.
Jackson Montgomery gave up four runs over the next 2.0 innings while
Brandon Stephens and
Justin Ritz combined to throw 2.2 scoreless innings with Stephens striking out three while retiring five batters.
Up Next: Coppin is scheduled to host Navy on Tuesday, February 24 at Joe Cannon Stadium. Weather permitting, first pitch is slated for 2:30 pm.
