Baseball Falls in Regular Season Finale to FDU

HANOVER, Md. – Senior Anthony Divittorio cranked a home run in his final collegiate game as the Coppin State baseball team fell to FDU, 14-4, on Saturday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.  The Eagles finished the season at 15-34 overall and 13-17 in the Northeast Conference while the Knights moved to 16-37 on the year and 16-14 in the NEC.

A senior from San Jose, Calif., Divittorio went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI while Noah Hogan also had a pair of hits. Indy Anderson also drove in a run for the Eagles who committed five errors defensively.

Kaden Straily took the loss, going 4.2 innings on the mound before Brandon Stephens struck out two in his 1.1 innings of work.  Justin Ritz made his CSU record 27th appearance of the season and allowed just one hit. Keith Wallace also saw time on the rubber, giving up a pair of runs in his lone inning.

FDU got out to a quick 4-0 start with a throwing error by the catcher allowing a run to score on a double steal. Coppin was able to get two of those runs back in its half of the inning as Gavin Grutzmacher scored on a groundout by Anderson, and Divittorio later scored on a wild pitch.

A pair of errors led to another run for FDU in the second and the Knights tacked on another in the fourth to go up, 6-2.

Bryce Thompson scored on a wild pitch in the fourth for the Eagles, but FDU bounced right back with a six-run fifth to extend its lead to 12-3.

Divittorio led off the fifth with a moonshot over the right field wall, cutting the margin to 12-4, but FDU put the game away with two runs in the eighth as CSU went down in order.
