JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Brooklyn Tapusoa and
Xzylia Maravilla homered, but Coppin State's softball team fell at Saint Peter's, 6-4, on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles fell to 0-9 on the season while the Peacocks improved to 5-8.
Maravilla finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI while
Aniyah Haley and
Natasha Arroyo also had multi-hit games.
Emily Quintero went the distance in the circle, allowing six runs on 12 hits while striking out three.
Saint Peter's got out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first before Arroyo singled home a run in the second, driving in
Paris Pinkston who doubled with one out earlier in the inning.
Quintero held Saint Peter's scoreless in the bottom half and Maravilla cut the deficit to 3-2 with a two-out single to right field, driving in
Giselle Ulloa from second after she stole the base. The Peacocks quickly got the run back in their half of the inning.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth before Tapusoa slugged a home run to lead off the fifth. After a two-run bottom half, Saint Peter's was up 6-3 on the Eagles and the Eagles were only able to get a solo home run from Maravilla to start the seventh.
