Softball Falls to Colgate & Bryant at Towson’s DeMarini Tiger Clash

TOWSON, Md. – Coppin State's softball team dropped a pair of games at Towson's DeMarini Tiger Clash on Saturday at Tiger Stadium.  The Eagles (0-7) fell to Colgate, 7-0, before dropping game two to Bryant, 5-1.

Colgate def. Coppin State, 7-0

Giselle Ulloa had a pair of hits while Sondra Berry had the other base knock for the Eagles.  Julianna Mejia also drew a walk and added a sacrifice hit to account for Coppin's baserunners to reach safely.

Tatjana Harris allowed seven runs on six hits in the complete game. She held the Raiders scoreless through the first two innings, giving up a walk in each inning.

Colgate got on the board with a run in the third and that's all it would need. The Raiders tacked on some insurance with a six-run seventh to put the game out of reach.

Bryant def. Coppin State, 5-1

Julianna Mejia went 3-for-4 with an RBI but Paris Pinkston was the only other Eagles player with a base hit.  Pinkston also drew a walk, as did Aniyah Haley, Sondra Berry and Natasha Arroyo.

Emily Quintero was charged with four earned runs on nine hits while striking out three in the complete game.

Bryant took a quick 1-0 lead with a run in the first before Quintero shut the door on the Bulldogs in the second and third. They added another in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.

Quintero threw a 1-2-3 sixth to keep the game in reach and Coppin put together its best offensive inning of the day in the seventh. Quintero reached on an error to start the frame and the bases were loaded following back-to-back walks with no outs. Following a pair of outs, Mejia singled up the middle to send the tying run to the plate.  Unfortunately, Bryant forced a groundout to escape with the win.

Up Next: Tomorrow's games at the Demarini Tiger Clash were canceled due to weather.  Coppin returns to action on Wednesday, March 5 for a 1 pm doubleheader at University of Delaware.
