GLEN ALLEN, Va. – Paris McBride scored a career-high 20 points as Coppin State's women's basketball team came up short against Georgia, 82-55, on Sunday afternoon at Henrico Sports & Events Center, as part of the 4 Tha Culture Holiday Hoops Classic. The Eagles fell to 2-12 overall while the Bulldogs remained unbeaten at 13-0.
A senior from Richmond, Va., McBride led all players in scoring, hitting 7-of-17 from the floor with a career-best six 3-pointers. McBride also pulled down five rebounds to go with four assists and a steal.
Erin Henry was the only other CSU player in double figures, finishing with 12 points, followed by
Skylar Barnes with seven, and both
Khila Morris and
Patricia Sosa Lora with six apiece.
Sydney Burris added a game-high ten rebounds and
Shanaii Gamble grabbed seven.
Georgia, who had three players in double figures, outshot Coppin, 52.5% to 31.7%. The Eagles' nine 3-pointers on the afternoon was a season-high and 14 turnovers was their lowest against a Division I opponent this season.
Coppin stayed right with the SEC foe, the Eagles' seventh Power Conference opponent this season, throughout the first half. The Bulldogs held a slim 14-13 lead after the first and 38-30 going into halftime.
The Bulldogs took command in the third quarter, holding CSU to just 22.2% shooting while making 50% of their own shots including four threes. With a pair of triples to close the quarter and seven-straight points to open the fourth, they were able to pull away from the Navy & Gold.
Coppin returns to action after the Christmas break with a trip to our Nation's Capital to play George Washington on Sunday, December 28 at 2:00 pm. Tipoff from the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center will air on ESPN+ in the Eagles' final non-conference game before opening MEAC competition after the New Year.
