A sophomore from Indianapolis, Haley went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and a walk while Tapusoa and Mejia had two hits each. Tapusoa had a pair of doubles, scored twice and drove in one. Mejia drove in a pair of runs with a double and a walk.
Seryna Esparza and
Manaia Fonoti also had base hits for the Eagles.
Vanessa Carrizosa went the distance in the circle, giving up eight runs on 13 hits over 6.0 innings while striking out two.
How it Happened
- GW got on the board in its first at-bat, scoring on a two-run double in the first.
- Coppin got both runs back, scoring once in the second on a Mejia RBI double, and in the third on a single by Haley.
- Mejia drove in Tapusoa as the pair recorded back-to-back doubles. Avianna Peterson touched home on Haley's base knock after drawing a walk and advancing to third on a sac bunt by Celeste Gonzales.
- George Washington regained the lead with a run in the fourth, but CSU tied it up again in the fifth when Haley led off with a shot over the fence in left field.
- The hosts came right back with three in the fifth and two in the sixth, taking a commanding, 8-3 lead.
- Ezparza started a seventh-inning rally with a one-out double and scored as Tapusoa found the gap in left center for a double. Tapusoa scored from second as Mejia lined a shot up the middle for a single but the side was retired just after.
