HACKENSACK, N.J. – Laila Lawrence posted a double-double with a season-high 27 points and ten rebounds to go with six steals as the Coppin State women's basketball team fell to Maine, 66-55, on Sunday afternoon to close out the FDU Christmas Tournament. The Eagles finished the non-conference portion of its season at 9-7 while the Black Bears improved to 5-8.

- Lawrence hit 8-of-16 shots from the floor and a career best 11-of-12 from the line to lead all players in scoring. She now has 11 double-doubles on the season.
- A senior from Lewisville, Texas, Lawrence added three assists, three blocks and a season-high six steals in an all-around impressive effort.
- Cire Worley was the only other Eagles player in double figures, tallying 13 points with seven rebounds, a team-high four assists and a pair of steals.
- Over the last four games of the non-conference season, Worley averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists with three games in double figures.
- Tyler Gray added six points, six rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals but the rest of Coppin's roster combined to score nine points.
- Maine outshot Coppin, 41.5% to 38.3% while hitting an impressive 15 3-points on 39.5% shooting from deep.
- The Black Bears had 21 assists on their 22 baskets and scored 36 points off 22 Eagles turnovers.
How it Happened
- After Maine opened the game with a three, Coppin got a basket from Gray and a pair of layups from Lawrence, giving the Eagles a 6-3 lead.
- The Black Bears tied it up and retook the lead with two more threes and eventually nailed another as the first quarter expired to take a 17-10 lead.
- Coppin battled back from a ten-point deficit early in the second quarter to a one-point margin at the half with layups from Gray and Worley and six free throws in the final minute and a half.
- Maine scored the first eight points of the second half to extend its lead back to nine and it carried an eight-point lead going into the fourth.
- Coppin was unable to put together much of a run in the final ten minutes as Maine hit another three triples to keep the Eagles at bay.
