GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the sixth-straight year, Coppin State's baseball team has been honored with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday. The Eagles were one of just four Northeast Conference programs to receive the award, joining Fairleigh Dickinson University, Long Island University and Stonehill College.
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2022-23 academic year.
"Hats off goes out to the great job my coaching staff does in recruiting the top student-athletes, who recognize that high achievement in the classroom is as important as those on the field of play," said head coach
Sherman Reed. "This tops off what has been a successful season, given the challenges of participating in a new conference that required more travel time and missed classes. With the stellar recruiting class my staff has completed, we look for even more success in the coming season."
As Coppin has received this award six-straight years, the Eagles have also enjoyed unprecedented success on the field during that stretch. Since the 2018 campaign, CSU has won 103 games, recording a MEAC Regular Season (2018) and Tournament Championship (2022), its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance in 2022 and at least 20 victories in four of five full seasons.
