Softball Falls at Towson in Regular Season Finale

TOWSON, Md. – Coppin State's softball team dropped its regular season finale at Towson, 6-0, on Friday afternoon at Tiger Softball Stadium.  The Eagles will enter next week's MEAC Tournament as the fifth seed with a 12-26 overall record.

Vanessa Carrizosa allowed just two runs over the first 4.0 innings to take the loss before Isabel Tobias gave up four over the next two innings. Both pitchers struck out one.

Celeste Gonzales was the only CSU player to reach base, drawing a leadoff walk and stealing second before being stranded in scoring position.

Carrizosa held Towson scoreless for the first three innings, escaping trouble by leaving the bases loaded in both the first and third. The Tigers scored a pair in the fourth three with-straight two-out hits before she retired the side.

Tobias threw a 1-2-3 fifth inning before TU scored four in the sixth.

Fifth-seeded Coppin will take on #4 Howard at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, May 10 in their opening game of the MEAC Tournament, held at Norfolk State's NSU Softball Field.  Coppin took two of three games from the defending MEAC Champions in the regular season.

The winner will play #2 Norfolk State at 6 pm later that night, with the loser playing the loser of North Carolina Central/Maryland Eastern Shore in an elimination game at 12 pm on Thursday, May 11.
