Baseball Visits NEC-Leading Central Connecticut State in Weekend Series

BALTIMORE - The Coppin State baseball team looks to get back to its winning ways as it travels to Central Connecticut State for a three-game series. The Eagles sit at 12-23 overall, 5-10 in NEC competition.
 
Focusing on the Eagles
 
Last week, the Eagles hosted the Skyhawks of Stonehill college and were defeated in two of the three games. Over the weekend, Josh Hankins led the Eagles with five hits. Hankins had two hits in both the second and third games.  
 
After last weekend's success, Hankins holds a .270 batting average and has a total of 33 hits this season. Brody Black continued his hot-hitting as he tallied four hits on the weekend.  He had a team high of three hits in game one of the series before adding one more in game two.
 
On the mound, Nico Felber picked up the win as he pitched 5.0 innings of shutout baseball. In the 22 batters he faced, Felber only gave up four hits and he struck out four batters. On the season, Felber has a team-high 2.54 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP, along with 34 strikeouts in 28.1 innings.
 
Brett Curran is hitting a team-high .311 on the season, followed by Black at .309 and Jordan Hamberg at .301. Hitting just under .300 is freshman Angel Colon.
 
Marcos Herrand leads the pitching staff with three wins and 43 strikeouts in 54.2 innings of work.
 
Looking at the Blue Devils
 
The Blue Devils of CCSU hold a record of 21-7 overall and are 16-2 in NEC competition. As a team, the Blue Devils have a .293 batting average which is second in the NEC.
 
At the plate, the Blue Devils are led by infielder/outfielder Hunter Pasqualini who has a .340 batting average in 109 at-bats. He has scored a team-leading 37 runs, stolen 13 bases, and hit  three home runs. Pasqualini also has a team leading on-base percentage of .486 and a slugging percentage of .472. The Blue Devils' home run leader Ramon Jimenez has hit eight homeruns this season, while also having a team leading slugging percentage.
 
On the mound, the Blue Devils are led by sophomore Vincent Spizzoucco. Spizzoucco leads the team with a 1.93 ERA and a K/9 of 10.13, while only giving up four earned runs this season in 18.2 innings pitched. Most of the Blue Devils innings have been pitched by juniors, Domonic Niman and Jake Neuman. Niman has pitched 48.2 innings this season with an ERA of 2.77 and has a team high 46 strikeouts.  Neuman has a 4.58 ERA and a 5.03 K/9 in his 39.1 innings pitched.

Game one of the series will take place on Friday, April 21 at 3:00pm. Game two will take place on Saturday, April 22 at 1:00pm. The series finale will take place on Sunday, April 23 at 12:00pm. All three games can be watched on NEC Front Row.
