Baseball Welcomes Stonehill College for Three-Game NEC Weekend Series

BALTIMORE - The Coppin State University baseball team looks to bounce back as it hosts conference opponent Stonehill College for a three-game series starting on Friday, April 14 at Joe Cannon Stadium. After dropping three games at Maryland Eastern Shore, the Eagles record sits at 11-21 on the season, and 4-8 in Northeast Conference play.
 
Focusing on the Eagles
Over the weekend, Brett Curran led the Eagles with six hits and a .545 batting average. He also added a run and three walks, adding to his team leading .330 batting average. Curran just had a season-long 12 game hitting streak snapped at Lehigh as a line drive was snagged by a diving outfielder.
 
Jordan Hamberg leads the Eagles both on the mound and at the plate. On the rubber, Hamberg holds a 6.27 ERA through 33.0 innings pitched with 41 strikeouts. He holds his opponents to a .238 batting average, giving up just 33 hits. At the plate, Hamberg has a .301 batting average and leads the team in OPS and RBIs with 1.002 and 26, respectively.
 
Also on the mound, Marcos Herrand has struck out eight batters in back-to-back appearances against Hartford and UMES. On the season, Herrand has a 6.46 ERA in 47.1 innings pitched with 39 strikeouts. His opponents are hitting .306 with 5 home runs.
 
New to the Eagles this season, Junior Brody Black has a .303 batting average with 30 hits and two home runs. Black leads the team with a .444 on-base percentage and is second to Hamberg in both OPS and slugging percentage at .939 and .495, respectively.
 
Over the last six games, freshman Angel Colon is hitting .435 (10-for-23) with seven runs and three doubles to raise his batting average to .294 on the season.
 
Nico Felber and Rashad Ruff have been two of the top relievers in the NEC this season, with Felber leading the Eagles with a 3.09 ERA, striking out 30 batters in 23.1 innings compared to just five walks.  Ruff has fanned 18 batters in 18.0 innings while going 2-0 with two saves and a 4.00 earned run average.
 
Looking in on the Skyhawks
The Stonehill Skyhawks come into this series at 3-32 (1-11 NEC). The Skyhawks are led at the plate by senior outfielder Conor Kiely. In 102 at-bats, Kiely holds a .373 batting average and a .458 on base percentage, while tallying 38 hits in his 26 games played this season.
 
Redshirt freshman Sam Parks leads the team in OBP, just edging out Kiely with .459 tallying 23 hits, a team leading 22 walks, and six hit-by-pitches. He has also tallied one of the Skyhawks' 12 total home runs of the season. Four of the 12 homeruns were hit by junior Trey Ciulla-Hall which leads the team.
 
On the mound, freshman Pierce Friedman leads the Skyhawks with a 1.86 ERA through 19.1 innings pitched. Senior pitcher, Matt Tyman has pitched the most innings this season with 24.2 innings pitched and holds a 3.65 ERA with 19 strikeouts.
