New Haven, CT: The Eagles brought a pair of new comers in a season opener match against University of New Haven. In spite of a win at first singles, Coppin dropped 5-1.
Doubles Play
First doubles returners duo of Kristina Georgieva and Megan Etienne faced Carreras and Shankar in an intense tie-breaking match. The Eagles duo started the set off hot with three straight wins. Etienne and Georgieva shortened rallies through power hits and tactical approaches and kept a lead at 4-1. New Haven made a two game run and later on evened out at 5-5. Momentum stayed with New Haven and they won the tie breaker 7-5.
Singles
Georgieva won at number one singles. Freshman Kaounde played a long fourth singles match to three sets with a ten point tiebreaker against Banks. After a victory in the first set at 6-3, Banks reversed the second set and win 6-3. Kaounde win three games in the tiebreaker and dropped 10-3. Johnson won a pair of games in a two set match at third singles.
