Baseball Drops Midweek Tilt at Mount St. Mary’s

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team dropped a midweek non-conference tilt at Mount St. Mary's, 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Straw Family Stadium. The Eagles, who currently sit atop the MEAC with a 7-5 record in league play, now stand at 11-18 on the season.

Wellington Balsley had three of Coppin's five base hits while Brian Nicolas added a pair of base knocks on the day. Tyler Lloyd and Landen Argabright both had a base hit while drawing a walk apiece.

Nico Felber returned to the mound and took the loss, allowing three earned runs over the first 3.0 innings. Luke Baker gave up a run in his lone inning before Justin Johnson threw two perfect innings with three strikeouts.  John Neeld followed with two runs in his inning of work before Marcos Herrand tossed a scoreless eighth inning.

Mount St. Mary's got on the board quickly, scoring two runs in the first and one in both the second and third innings to take a 4-0 lead.  The Eagles were able to plate a run in the top of the fourth as Argabright lined out to second base.  The Mountaineer attempted to double up the runner, but the throw went wild which allowed Marcos Castillo, who was hit by a pitch, to score from third.

The Mount got that run back in its half of the fourth and scored two more runs in the seventh as CSU stranded eight runners on base.

The Eagles host MEAC rival Norfolk State on April 8-10 for a four-game series at Joe Cannon Stadium in Hanover, Md. Friday's single game is set for 3 pm, followed by a 12 pm doubleheader on Saturday and 12 pm single game on Sunday.
