Women’s Hoops Drops Low-Scoring Affair at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Colleen Bucknor led the Eagles with the ten points as Coppin State's women's basketball team shot just 29.6% from the floor in a 47-38 loss at Campbell on Thursday night at Gilbert Craig Gore Arena.  With the loss, the Eagles now stand at 2-6 overall while the Camels improve to 4-3.

Inside the Numbers

  • Hope Evans added seven points with two assists, a block and a steal while Lucia Reos hit a pair of treys for six points.
  • Jewel Watkins chipped in with five points, followed by Mossi Staples and Jalynda Salley with four points apiece. Alexandria Hamilton added a bucket and was credited with a team-high six rebounds. Staples tallied three steals and Reos finished with two.

How it Happened
  • Campbell scored the first four points of the game before Bucknor put Coppin on the board at the 7:02 mark.  The Camels answered with three-straight points before Hamilton converted on a pass from Evans with just under six minutes left in the period.
  • The Camels held Coppin scoreless for several minutes until Salley hit a jumper in the paint, but the Eagles forced the hosts into just 38% shooting and trailed, 12-6 after the first.
  • The second period was the highest-scoring quarter of the game with Campbell outscoring Coppin, 16-13.
  • Campbell extended its lead to as many as 22-10 with a 6-0 run midway through the period, but Bucknor scored after a pass from Watkins, and Watkins converted on a three-point play a couple minutes later.
  • Coppin continued to fight in the second half, cutting a 15-point deficit to as little as 45-36 following back-to-back threes by Reos in the fourth.
  • Evans hit a jumper as time expired in the fourth to bring the final deficit back to nine points.
