A junior from Waldorf, Md., Brown bested 64 other bowlers to win the first individual title of her collegiate career.  Brown opened the Tournament with a 179 against Chestnut Hill, who hosted the event, before posting a 219 in CSU's win over Howard.  She followed with a career-high 246 in a heartbreaking loss to #11 Mount St. Mary's before closing with a 211 against Wilmington and 173 versus Caldwell.

With a 3-2 record on the day, Coppin is in a four-way tie for third place going into tomorrow's Baker matches.  Also recording three wins on Saturday were Kutztown, Wilmington and Mount St. Mary's as the Eagles totaled 4,558 total pins for a 182.3 average.

Kaylah Castillo just missed out on All-Tournament Team honors, finishing sixth overall with 989 pins (197.80), one pin shy of fifth place.  A graduate student from Orlando, Fla., Castillo also rolled three games of at least 200 pins, tallying a 207 against Howard, 222 against Wilmington and 200 against Caldwell.

With Coppin fielding one of its largest rosters in recent memory, six other Eagles made appearances with Elizabeth Stokley, Janaye Monroe and Jalyne Myers competing in three matches. Temira White, Xiani Carpenter and TaVera Johnson were credited with scores in a pair of games.

Making her collegiate debut, Stokley averaged a 173.00 with a high of 203 against Mount St. Mary's.  Monroe accumulated 511 total pins for an average of 170.33, rolling a 182 against The Mount. Over three matches, Myers tallied 492 pins, good for a 164.00 average with a high of 178 to wrap up the day against Caldwell.

White competed in both the first and last matches of the day, averaging a 173.50 after a 186 against Caldwell.  Also competing in her first collegiate tournament, Carpenter rolled a 190 in a victory over the Bison to accumulate a 171.50 average.  Johnson competed in the first two matches of the day and averaged a 164.50.

Head Coach Shaunita Middleton on the team's season opening performance
"Overall, today was a good day. We did get off to a bit of a slow start, bowling an 848 against Chestnut Hill, which was our lowest game of the day, but the team never lost its high energy or focus.  Our scores increased over the next few matches which contributed to the execution of our shots and making the adjustments with the transition of the pattern.  Even with two heartbreaking losses by a combined 22 pins, we never let up or stopped fighting.  We're excited to get back on the lanes tomorrow and add some more games to the win column."
