BALTIMORE – Nailah Delinois led Coppin State's women's basketball team with a season-high 13 points in a 67-45 loss to Howard (12-3, 8-2 MEAC) on Sunday afternoon at PEC Arena.
A redshirt senior from Sunrise, Fla., Delinois was a point short of her career-high as she made 5-of-11 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers. Delinois also finished with four rebounds and a steal.
Jalynda Salley finished a point shy of a double-double, recording nine points and ten rebounds to go with two blocks and two steals.
Aliyah Lawson added eight points and eight rebounds while
Hope Evans dished out a season-high six assists along with two steals.
The Eagles got out first as redshirt senior
Roni Richardson, who was honored in a pregame ceremony, hit a three from the corner at the 8:04 mark. Howard then scored 16 unanswered points before Delinois stopped the run with a layup with just over three minutes to play in the first. The Eagles outscored the Bison, 8-3 over the final three minutes of the period and trailed, 19-11 after the first.
Coppin played even with Northern Division leaders in the second period and went into the half trailing, 31-23, but the Bison pulled away in the second half, making 13-of-17 free throws in the final 20 minutes.
Howard got a game-high 17 points from
Jayla Thornton and outshot Coppin, 37.3% to 29.1%.
CSU (2-10, 2-8 MEAC) wraps up the regular season on February 27-28 at archrival Morgan State. Both games will tip off at 2 pm.
