PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Coppin State's women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale at MEAC rival Maryland Eastern Shore, 61-46 on Thursday night at Hytche Arena.  The Eagles enter next week's MEAC Tournament at 3-25 overall and 3-13 in the MEAC while the Hawks move to 8-21 on the year and 5-11 in league play.

  • Maryland Eastern Shore outshot Coppin, 38.7% to 27.8% and outrebounded the Eagles, 45-37.  The Hawks 12 offensive rebounds led to ten second chance points.

How it Happened
  • After trading multiple buckets early on, Coppin went on the first mini-run of the game, scoring seven-straight points to open a 12-7 lead.  Aliyah Lawson hit back-to-back threes before she and Jalynda Salley found Chance Graham inside for back-to-back layups.
  • Maryland Eastern Shore stopped their scoreless drought with a layup and added a free throw before Oluwadamilola Oloyede converted inside with just under two minutes to play in the first.
  • A layup by the Hawks with 32 seconds left ended the scoring in the opening period as CSU held a 14-12 lead.
  • UMES started the second quarter on a 10-1 run, opening a 22-15 lead but Coppin responded with seven unanswered points, capped off by an old-fashioned three-point by Graham to tie the score at the 4:35 mark.
  • The Hawks closed the half with six-straight points to lead 28-22 at the break and scored the first five of the third quarter to open a 33-22 advantage.
  • Freshman Alexandria Hamilton, Tyree Allen and Marley Grenway led the Eagles on a 9-4 run over the next 4:51 to pull CSU to within 37-31 with 3:13 remaining in the quarter.
  • The six-point deficit was as close as Coppin got the rest of the way as the Hawks outscored the Eagles, 9-5 the rest of the period which included a layup at the buzzer, giving the hosts a 46-36 lead going into the final period.
Up Next: The same two teams will meet in the opening game of the MEAC Tournament at 12 pm on Tuesday, March 10 at Norfolk Scope Arena.  Coppin is seeded ninth while Maryland Eastern Shore is the eighth seed.
