CHARLESTON, S.C. – Coppin State's softball team was blanked by Maine, 7-0, on Sunday morning in the finale of the Holy City Showdown on the campus of College of Charleston.

Inside the Numbers
  • The Eagles recorded just four base hits on the day with Cloe' Ochoa being the only Coppin player to reach base safely twice with a hit and a walk.  Brissa Alvarado, Melanie Aguilera and Desiree Carrizosa also had hits.
  • Alvarado got the start in the circle and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four in 6.0 innings.  Lily Carter gave up three runs in 0.2 innings before Kayleigh Reome recorded the final out.
How it Happened
  • Brissa Alvarado held Maine scoreless in the first but the Black Bears managed to put one run across in the second.
  • After facing the minimum in the third, Coppin failed to score in the bottom half with a single by Desiree Carrizosa and a walk issued to Cloe' Ochoa.
  • Maine went scoreless once again in the fourth but scored twice in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Melanie Aguilera and Alvarado singled in the CSU half of the fifth but once again the Eagles came up empty before the Black Bears scored another in the sixth to go up 4-0.
  • Lily Carter started in the circle for the seventh and gave up a run while recording a pair of outs.  Two of her runners scored after Kayleigh Reome relieved her to give the Black Bears a seven-run advantage.
