Women’s Hoops Falls to North Carolina A&T

BALTIMORE – Tyree Allen scored a season-high 13 points as Coppin State's women's basketball team fell to North Carolina A&T, 84-38 at PEC Arena on Saturday afternoon.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Tyree Allen made 4-of-7 shots, including both of her 3-pointers and 3-of-4 from the line to record a season-high 13 points.  She also pulled down three rebounds while recording a pair of steals.
  • Chance Graham and Aliyah Lawson added seven points apiece with Graham tallying eight rebounds to pull into 10th place on the MEAC all-time rebounds list.
  • Jalynda Salley was credited with two points, six rebounds, four blocks, two assists and two steals.
  • North Carolina A&T outshot Coppin, 43.7% to 28.6%, outrebounded the Eagles, 47-28, and turned 28 CSU turnovers into 36 points. 
  • The Aggies got 20 points apiece from Cinia McCray and Deja Winters.

How it Happened
  • Coppin played tough with North Carolina A&T and held a 10-9 lead with 3:37 to go in the first quarter after a three by Aliyah Lawson.
  • The Aggies then closed the period on a 9-0 run and outscored Coppin, 21-8 in the second period to take a 39-18 halftime lead.
  • Seven early points from Chance Graham, including a three-point play at the 5:20 mark of the third kept Coppin within striking distance but it was all Aggies from there as the visitors scored 17-straight points to close the third
  • The visitors held Coppin scoreless halfway through the fourth before Tyree Allen hit a pair of free throws, followed by two more from Jalynda Salley just 20 seconds later.

Up Next: Coppin is back in action on Saturday, January 25 when it hosts crosstown rival Morgan State in a 2 pm start.
