Morgan State Pulls Away from Women’s Hoops in Regular Season Finale

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale at Morgan State, 70-47, on Thursday night at Hill Field House. The Eagles will be the 11th seed in next week's MEAC Tournament.

How it Happened
First Quarter
  • Morgan State jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but Jalynda Salley kept the Eagles in it, scoring the team's first seven points.
  • Kaiya Coleman then hit a three to give Coppin its first lead at 10-9 with just under three minutes to go in the first quarter.
  • The teams traded 3-pointers but the Bears hit a jumper in the final seconds to take a 14-13 lead after the first.
Second Quarter
  • Coppin's Brooke Fields and Morgan's Ashia McCalla traded triples to open the period but another easy layup by Salley gave CSU an 18-17 advantage with 6:44 left.
  • Morgan closed the half on a 10-0 run to take a 27-18 lead to the half.
Third Quarter
  • Coppin pulled to within 31-26 at the 6:01 mark but that would be as close as the Eagles got the rest of the way as Morgan used a 17-4 run and led 49-33 after three.
Fourth Quarter
  • Morgan State outscored Coppin, 21-14 in the period.
Inside the Numbers
  • Jalynda Salley led Coppin with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting along with a team-high nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
  • Brooke Fields added 13 points and five assists while Kaiya Coleman scored in double figures for the sixth-straight game with 11 points to go with eight rebounds.
  • The Eagles turned the ball over 25 times which led to 27 Morgan State points.
  • Morgan had five players in double figures as Adre'onia Coleman and Ashia McCalla scored 15 points each.
