NORFOLK, Va. – Brooke Fields scored 19 points and made all eight of her free throws while
Jalynda Salley notched a double-double 14 points and ten rebounds but it was not enough as the Coppin State women's basketball team fell to Bethune-Cookman, 55-49 in the MEAC Quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at Scope Arena.

Inside the Numbers
- Coppin outscored Bethune-Cookman in three of the four quarters, but were outscored, 18-4 in the second as they shot 2-of-17 compared to 6-of-16 for the Wildcats.
- Aside from the 33 combined points by Fields and Salley, Chance Graham added seven points with three rebounds while Oluwadamilola Oloyede chipped in with six points and eight rebounds.
- Salley also contributed mightily on the defensive end with three blocks and three steals.
- In her final collegiate game, Kaiya Coleman recorded four steals.
- Coppin actually outshot Bethune-Cookman, 29.5% to 27.7% as both teams made 18 field goals. Bethune made three more 3-pointers (5) and three more free throws (14) than the Eagles and outrebounded Coppin, 52-42.
- The Wildcats had 22 offensive rebounds which led to 14 second chance points and they converted on 10 fast-break points.
- Angel Golden scored 26 points for Bethune-Cookman to lead all players.
How it Happened
First Quarter
- Coppin got out to a fast start on inside buckets by Olwadamilola Oloyede and Jalynda Salley and following a Bethune-Cookman jumper, Brooke Fields hit a three to give the Eagles an early 7-2 lead.
- Following a Wildcats layup, Chance Graham got on the board with a jumper, extending the lead back to five.
- Graham then answered a Bethune bucket with a three to give CSU its largest lead of the half at 12-6 with 5:39 remaining.
- The Wildcats closed the period on a 5-1 run as the Eagles led 13-11.
- Both teams made 5-of-16 shots in the quarter but Graham led all players with six points. Salley was all over the box score in the period with three rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Second Quarter
- Coppin went back inside to Jalynda Salley to start the second and the Eagles remained on top 17-16 at the 6:55 mark.
- Bethune then made three-straight 3-pointers and closed the half on a 13-0 run, taking a 29-17 lead into the half.
- CSU made just 2-of-17 shots in the quarter and turned the ball over six times which led to six fastbreak points for the Wildcats.
Third Quarter
- Coppin outscored the Wildcats, 15-13 in the period and used its aggressiveness to get to the line early and often. The Eagles made 7-of-9 free throws to stay in the game.
- CSU also held Bethune-Cookman to 5-of-20 shooting but the Wildcats got eight offensive rebounds in the quarter, leading to six second-chance points.
Fourth Quarter
- Coppin scored six-straight points to cut the deficit to just 42-38 at the 8:52 mark but Bethune's Angel Golden buried a three and made a layup to stop the run.
- A nice drive and dish by Brooke Fields to Oluwadamilola Oloyede cut it back to a seven-point game, and Fields drove in for a three-point at the 4:48 media timeout to make it a 48-43 ballgame.
- The five point deficit was as close as the Eagles would get the rest of the game as their season came to an end.
News & Notes
- Brooke Fields closes out her collegiate career with 1,736 points, 510 of which came in her lone season with the Eagles. Her 151 free throws made this season is the third-most in CSU history. Her 510 points are the 9th-most in Coppin single-season history and the most by a Coppin player since Kyra Coleman had 530 in the 2013-14 season.
- Chance Graham finished the year with 342 rebounds, just two shy of a Coppin single-season record. She'll enter her senior season with 1,019 points (13th all-time at Coppin) and 899 rebounds, just ten off the school-record held by Rene' Doctor.
