Fields Ties Season High with 26 Points as Women’s Hoops Stumbles in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Brooke Fields dropped a season-best 26 points for the third time this season to lead all scorers and Jalynda Salley paced both sides in rebounds (11) but Savannah State pulled out a wire-to-wire victory to defeat the visiting Eagles, 68-57.

How It Happened
 
First Quarter
  • Savannah State came out of the blocks on a roll, 16 of the game's first 21 points to take a 16-5 advantage after five minutes.
  • A 7-0 run by the Lady Eagles shrunk the gap to within four at 16-11 SSU.
  • The final 2:23 saw the Tigers squeak by on a 5-4 advantage to end the beginning frame with a 21-16 lead.
Second Quarter
  • A 9-5 surge punctuated by five straight points by Brooke Fields minimized the Tigers advantage to only one at 26-25 Savannah.
  • Savannah State responded with six unanswered to stall the Eagles momentum at 32-25 SSU.
  • Both squads would notch six more points to send them into the locker room with the orange and blue holding onto a 38-31 upper hand.
Third Quarter
  •  The Tigers were ready to pounce out the break with an 8-0 outburst to extend the lead to 15, 46-31.
  • A triple from Coppin's Kaiya Coleman capped a nine to two rally to pull the Eagles back in it, 48-40 Savannah State.
  • The home team outperformed the visitors 5-2 over the remaining two minutes to give itself a 53-42 edge going into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • Jalynda Salley would kiss a layup off the backboard to cut it to 55-47 in favor of Savannah.
  • Seven consecutive free throws for the Lady Tigers put the game out of reach at 62-47 with four minutes to go as SSU went on to defeat the Lady Eagles by a 68-57 final.

  • Four Savannah State players accumulated double-digit points while Alexxus Sowell posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six blocks.
