ARLINGTON, Va. – Marcos Castillo drove in three runs but the Coppin State baseball team fell at the hands of George Washington University, 16-5, on Wednesday night at Tucker Field. The Eagles now stand at 17-11-1 on the season.
A freshman from Round Rock, Texas, Castillo finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI to pace Coppin offensively.
Andres Santana also had a pair of hits and an RBI while
Nazier McIlwain also had a run batted in.
Carlos Alviarez scored a pair of runs for the Eagles.
Castillo helped give CSU an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run single to left field. Scoring on the play was Santana and Alviarez as they led off the game with a single and a double, respectively.
From there it was all GW as the Colonials scored 16 unanswered runs over the first five innings.
Castillo and McIlwain both drove in runs in the sixth and Santana plated another in the seventh and that completed the scoring for both teams.
Anthony Martinez pitched the final three innings of the game and did not give up a run.
Quinn Gleed took the loss, allowing six runs in 1.1 innings before giving way to
Daniel Alvarez.
On Deck: Coppin travels to MEAC rival Norfolk State on May 5-6. Saturday's doubleheader is set for 2 pm followed by a 12 pm single game on Sunday. The conference-leading Eagles can clinch a Northern Division regular season title with a win in any of its last four conference games as they also have a single game at Delaware State on May 10 remaining on the schedule.
