BALTIMORE, Md. – Oluwadamilola Oloyede recorded a double-double but the Coppin State women's basketball team fell to Hampton, 83-48, in MEAC action on Monday night at PEC Arena. The Eagles now stand at 6-18 overall and 5-7 in the MEAC while the Pirates improve to 12-13 with an 8-4 mark in conference play.
Oloyede notched her third double-double of the season with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting along with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Maraiyah Smith led Coppin with 14 points while
Chance Graham added eight to go with 12 rebounds.
Coppin kept it close early on and trailed by just seven after the first quarter but Hampton doubled up the Eagles n the second, scoring the first six points of the period. The Pirates led by as many as 20 in the period and went into the half with a 43-24 lead.
Graham and Oloyede put Coppin on the board early to start the second half but following a pair of free throws by Smith with 3:50 remaining, Hampton scored 11 straight points to extend the lead to 63-32.
Hampton, who was led by
Jephany Brown with 20 points, led by as many as 38 in the fourth. The Pirates had four players reach double figures and outshot Coppin, 45.5% to 25.4%. The Eagles turned the ball over 22 times, leading to 32 Pirate points.
