ORMOND, Fla. – Coppin State softball was eliminated from the 2017 MEAC Softball Championships in a 7-5 loss to Delaware State University on Thursday, May 11
th at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. The Eagles finished with seven hits, but had three costly errors early on in the game.
The Eagles trailed 4-0 after Delaware State came up with five hits in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore
Cayla Brown had her second hit of the game in the fourth inning singling to left field and advancing to second on an error. Freshman
Arianna Alderete pinch ran for Brown and then freshman
Patricia Soria drew a walk followed by a hit by pitch from freshman
Cloe' Ochoa. With the bases loaded sophomore
Nicole Ullman doubled to right center scoring all three runners clearing the bases (4-3).
In the fourth inning, the Hornets added on to their lead with one run on three hits. The Eagles responded with a pair of runs on four hits to tie things up at 5-5 in the fifth inning. Sophomore
Hatika James hit her third home run of the season leading off the inning. Sophomore
Megan Narvaez singled to left field and then Brown scored Narvaez on an RBI single to right center field.
Delaware State put together an effective sixth inning to pull ahead of the Eagles. DSU had three hits leading to a pair of runs for a 7-5 advantage over Coppin State. DSU blasted a two-RBI double to right center that were the game winning runs eliminating the Eagles from the MEAC Softball Championships.

Madison Didion struck out one batter in 3.0 innings and then freshman
Shelby Spaziani finished the game also tossing 3.0 innings.
Cayla Brown went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Nicole Ullman had a season-high three-RBI and
Hatika James homered to left field.
The 2017 Coppin State softball team concludes their season with an overall record of 10-42 and made it to the MEAC Softball Championships after a two year hiatus. Second year head coach
Gino Olivieri had three named to the All-MEAC Softball Team while seven were named to the All-MEAC Softball Academic Team.
