HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State baseball suffered a 7-4 loss in their final home game of the season to Richmond University on Wednesday, May 10
th at Joe Cannon Stadium.
Coppin State falls to 11-31 overall record and Richmond moves to 16-30 record.
The Richmond Spiders led 7-0 after the sixth inning and then the Eagles came up with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Junior
Brett Helmbrecht walked to get things going for Coppin State. Freshman
Cole Gerula singled to shortstop sending Helmbrecht to second and then junior
Caleb Duhay RBI singled through the left side for CSU's first run.
Sophomore
Nazier McIlwain drew the second walk of the inning loading the bases with Gerula and Duhay in scoring position. Next, sophomore
Jamar Criss drove in three-RBI with a double to right center field scoring all three runners.
Helmbrecht singled through the right side in the sixth and Duhay doubled to right center in the seventh inning.
Sophomore starting pitcher
Devin Rivera Ozuna (2-3) went three innings striking out two batters while walking three. Freshman
Quinn Gleed also tossed three innings, freshman
Joshua Hancock went two innings with one strikeout and freshman
Corey Treyes fanned a pair of Spiders in his one inning of work.
Caleb Duhay hit his third double of the season while leading the Eagles at the plate going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Jamar Criss recorded three RBI with
Brett Helmbrecht and
Cole Gerula each tallying a hit.
The Eagles will close out their 2017 regular season on Thursday, May 11
th at UMBC with a single game slated for 4 p.m.
