BALTIMORE, Md. – Coppin State softball suffered a doubleheader sweep to Delaware State University on Saturday, April 1
st at the CSU Softball Field. The Hornets won game one 6-1 and game two 12-4. Sophomore
Cayla Brown led the Eagles with a hit and three RBIs on the day.
Coppin State drops to 3-26 overall with a 1-4 MEAC record. Delaware State improves to 7-18 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
In game one the Eagles tied a season-high with seven strikeouts for the third time this season. Delaware State came away with a 6-1 victory combining for 12 hits and runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Starting pitcher sophomore
Madison Didion tied a season-high with six strikeouts for the second time this season. Didion went 5.0 innings and walked only one batter. Freshman relief pitcher
Shelby Spaziani went 2.0 innings striking out one and walking none.
In the third inning Coppin State went ahead 1-0 after an RBI fielder's choice by
Cayla Brown. Sophomore
Megan Narvaez led the inning off with a double to left center field and then scored on Brown's plate appearance. DSU tied it at 1-1 with two hits leading to a run in the top of the fourth inning. Then the Hornets scored one run in the fifth, three in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh inning to down the Eagles, 6-1.
Coppin State finished with six hits against the Hornets. Freshman
Kimberly Evans singled to left field in the second inning, junior
Camille Ochoa singled to right field in the fourth inning, freshman
Cloe' Ochoa singled to right field in the fourth and freshman
Patricia Soria singled to second base in the sixth inning.
In game two, Delaware State led 7-0 after the third inning before the Eagles finally got on the scoreboard. Three hits led to four runs in the bottom of the third inning for CSU in a 12-4 loss.

Megan Narvaez and
Cloe' Ochoa all drew walks in back-to-back plate appearance for CSU to start the third inning. With the bases loaded
Cayla Brown RBI singled to right field scoring both Narvaez and Benge for two runs.
Then, Soria also brought in two runs on a single to right field scoring both Ochoa sisters for the Eagles fourth run of the inning. Spaziani had her first double of the season and third hit with a shot to right field in the inning. The Eagles final hit of the game came in the sixth inning on a single up the middle by
Kimberly Evans.
The Hornets and Eagles will return for a single game on Sunday, April 2
nd at noon to close out the weekend MEAC series.
